Music Moodboard by Steve

I initially researched different pieces of music in order to evoke different emotions. For a fast-paced mood, acts such as the Prodigy or Rage Against The Machine would have been perfect. In the end, however, we wanted to keep a sense of British melancholy and use something that would be slower, simpler and more complementary.

As Audio Producer, I was left with a number of options with this in mind. Whole bands, such as the Mars Volta, would have given an overly cluttered soundscape. Additionally, this song in particular would create an uneasy mood, which was not desired.

A song by a singer-songwriter (such as Bon Ivor or The Tallest Man on Earth) would create a more effective downbeat mood, but the reliance on lyrics would leave little to the audience's imagination.

I was left with the simplest option, using a classical composer. The best for a despondent mood is Italian composer Ludovico Einaudi, who incidentally wrote all the music for This Is England. I chose an early work, Nefeli, which has a prominent melody line and will therefore complement the silence of the trailers.
